Betty Busse, known in the trade as Bethy Busse, was one of the most influential American perfumers of the twentieth century, sometimes referred to as The Million Dollar Nose during the height of her career in the 1960s and 1970s. She was trained at IFF and spent the core of her career there, crafting landmark compositions including the original Chloé launched in 1974 under Karl Lagerfeld's artistic direction, and Estée for Estée Lauder co-created with Bernard Chant. She also created Fleur de Fleurs for Nina Ricci in 1982.
