Christian Mathieu
Christian Mathieu (1946–2020) was a French perfumer known for his accomplished body of work in aquatic and aromatic fougère compositions. He began his career at IFF in Bois-Colombes, where he created several notable fragrances for Jacomo, including Jacomo de Jacomo and Parfum Rare. He later moved to Roure Bertrand Dupont, where he composed Kenzo pour Homme, an emblematic woody-marine fragrance recognized as a mythical fragrance by The Fragrance Foundation.
Mathieu subsequently joined Takasago Paris, where he continued working in a marine idiom, creating Insensé Ultramarine for Givenchy, Hugo Boss Elements Aqua, and Venezia Uomo for Laura Biagiotti. He was known as a discreet, deeply professional figure whose compositions combined technical precision with a distinctive freshness.
