Betty Busse was an American perfumer at International Flavors and Fragrances known for working at the intersection of grand floral composition and commercial ambition. Active from the 1960s through the 1970s, she earned the informal title of The Million Dollar Nose in recognition of her ability to create fragrances that achieved wide commercial success.
Among her most celebrated creations is the original Chloé fragrance launched in 1975 under Karl Lagerfeld's direction, a lush aldehydic composition built around tuberose, carnation, jasmine, narcissus, and rose. She also co-created Estée Extrait for Estée Lauder in 1968 in collaboration with Bernard Chant.
