Louis Vuitton, the French luxury house founded in 1854 as a trunk-maker, entered perfumery in 2016 after a four-year development period. The house appointed Jacques Cavallier Belletrud — a third-generation Grasse perfumer whose father and grandfather were both in the trade — as its exclusive in-house perfumer in 2012, granting him full creative autonomy and unlimited access to the world's finest raw materials. All Louis Vuitton fragrances are developed and produced at Les Fontaines Parfumées, the house's dedicated atelier in Grasse, the historic capital of French perfumery. The debut women's collection of seven scents arrived in September 2016, followed by a men's line in 2018. The house has since expanded steadily, with Cavallier Belletrud crafting each composition personally — an unusual arrangement in an industry where most fashion houses license their fragrance operations to third-party manufacturers.
